The 2019/20 season saw major progress in the leadership development of our members.

The 2019 Bronze Medallion camp was one of the biggest groups of bronzies so far, giving our leadership team the opportunity to have an impact on the development of our younger members. Our training team consisted of 26 talented, experienced, and enthusiastic members who worked extremely hard throughout the camp to provide all bronzies with the best camp experience.  

Prior to the season, a Patrol Captains’ workshop was created to assist in the support of our current and upcoming patrol captains. We worked with the captains to share tips and tricks for effective, safe, and smart patrolling developed strategies on how to engage members and talked through challenges that are faced as patrol captain and how we can better support our captains through this. The workshop was a very successful day and it was great to see some strategies put in place throughout the season!

During the season we hosted a “Woolamai whiteboard session”, where we brainstormed some ideas to assist in the development and support of our members. Initiatives such as creating skills maintenance weekends, focusing on water skills, mental health awareness, and first aid programs were put in motion to help assist in the progression of younger member’s skill sets. A patrol captain’s budget was created to help with providing fun evening activities, skills maintenance opportunities, and meals throughout each rostered patrol. An exchange program was set in motion and the future of Woolamai’s bronze camp capacity was also discussed. This session was an extremely powerful discussion and it was great to hear from the passionate younger members of our great club. I look forward to next season where we will see these programs in action!

At the beginning of the season, I set a goal to ensure that at least one Woolamai member was represented at every state development camp for 2020. I am pleased to share that a Woolamai member has been selected for each state camp for the year so far. Whilst COVID-19 has seen a stop to all camps for the year, I am proud of the efforts made to provide our members with these great opportunities, and look forward to seeing the success of the camps when they start up again.

What a great season 2019/20 has been! I look forward to more developments made within our club next season!
