Competition
We started the season with a focus on encouraging more Nippers to join the Junior Competition Team. With this in mind, we are had some great training sessions at Smiths Beach after our nippers season with a number of fresh faces from all age groups.
With Covid restrictions in place, Life Saving Victoria made the call early to reduce the Junior Carnivals and State Championships to Under 12 and Under 13 only to comply with allowed numbers on the beach. Although this was a disappointment to a lot of Woolamai competitors, everyone was understanding of the situation.
Woolamai Beach SLSC was represented by 3 superstars at the Junior State Championships; Ayden Fawaz, Ryder Evans, and Max Parsons. The boys competed in all available events in some rough Warrnambool conditions. Again, it was great to see the spirit of the competition at the State Championships with Woolamai competing with a number of other clubs in combined teams.
Congratulations to Ayden Fawaz who came home in the first position in the 2km run earning him the coveted gold medal in this race.
In the second half of 2020, the Winter Pool Competition State Championships were unfortunately canceled. Despite this, the Woolamai Pool Competition Team is still regularly training for the upcoming Pool Carnivals and 2021 State Championships which are still scheduled for later in the year.
Earlier this year, it has been great to see a number of our members interested in starting an IRB racing team. A three-year plan has been developed to allow our IRB team to get the appropriate training hours and acquire a dedicated boat and motor. We look forward to seeing our club being represented in future IRB carnivals and championships.
We looking forward to a great upcoming 2021 summer season of competition.
