Annual General Meeting - Letter 2

Dear Woolamai Beach SLSC Members,

AGM Letter 2 This is the link to the second notice regarding our upcoming Annual General Meeting which will be held at the clubhouse on Saturday 27th July 2024, commencing at 3pm.

This notice contains the received nominations for the Club's 2024/25 Season Board of Directors.

The club has now completed its annual financial audit and a copy of this report can be obtained via the following link:

In addition to the notice letter, a copy of the proposed amendment (Section 44) to the Club Constitution being put to member vote at the AGM has also been attached. Link to the Club Constitution containing proposed wording and changes.

Member opportunity: Emergency Services AFL Match 2024

The Emergency Services AFL match is back again for 2024 and we have an exciting opportunity for lifesaving club members to be involved.

Life Saving Victoria (LSV) is thrilled to again be participating in the Emergency Services AFL match.

The match organised by Hawthorn Football Club is a celebration of the selfless work and commitment of Victorian emergency services. It will support raising vital funds for the Emergency Services Foundation, in addition to spreading awareness of the mental health issues that many in these fields experience.

It is a fantastic opportunity for LSV to come together with our emergency services colleagues and applaud the invaluable contributions of all emergency services personnel. We are delighted to offer members the opportunity to attend the 2024 Emergency Services AFL match and participate in our pre-match activation and an on-field ceremony. Details of the event are outlined below:

  • Date: Sunday, 18 August 2024

  • Location: Melbourne Cricket Ground Teams: Hawthorn FC v Richmond FC

  • Time: Yarra Park Fan Zone – 1:00pm Match – 3:20pm

  • Participant Opportunities: Pre-game fan zone activations Guard of honour Lap of honour Motorcade

Submitting an expression of interest

Before submitting an expression of interest, please consider the key points below:

  • Members must be in full patrol uniform to participate (you are welcome to change into casual clothes to watch the match once official duties have concluded)

  • Chosen participants will receive a free ticket to the match for themselves, and a plus one (if required). Participants will be able to purchase additional tickets for $10 each.

  • Participants will have access to an exclusive zone in Yarra Park which will come with complimentary lunch and kids' activities.

  • We will consider submissions on a first come, first served basis. However, we would like to ensure we have a good representation from across our clubs and will give preference to members that have not participated previously.

If you would like to represent Life Saving Victoria at the match, please submit your expression of interest via the form below by Sunday, 28 July.

Emergency Services AFL Match 2024 – Expression of Interest Members will be contacted at the start of August to confirm if they have secured a place at this year’s event. Further information including more detailed timings and requirements will also be communicated then.

Wanted - Newsletter editor/Website guru

Our Club is looking for a person with good written communication skills and creativity to take over editing the Club newsletter and website.

This is an exciting role which will appeal to someone who wants to gain valuable communication experience and help the Club share important information with its members.

 The role reports to the Director Communication (or an alternative Board member).  The role works alongside the Club's social media officer (Erin Close) and the Bass Coast Series marketing manager (Ryan Box).  

Much of the role can be carried out independently at times that suit you.

Tasks and responsibilities

  • Editing and sending regular newsletters to Club members via email and Facebook

  • Updating the Club website periodically

  • Publicising club social events and setting up bookings/invitations

  • Editing and collating the annual report

A lot of the content, articles and photos are provided by others. 

About You

Our ideal candidate is someone who has:

  • Good written communication skills

  • Attention to detail and accuracy

  • Creativity

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team

  • While not essential, some knowledge of websites and social media (training will be provided)

  • While not essential, some knowledge of the Club and surf life saving

Lifesaving Services Seasonal Recruitment Now Open

LSV are pleased to advise that applications to join Life Saving Victoria’s (LSV) seasonal lifesaving services for the 2024/25 season are now open.

Applications are now open for the following lifesaving services for the 2024/25 Season:

  • Paid Beach Lifeguards

  • RWC Operators (Paid & Volunteer)

  • RPAS (Drone) Pilots (Paid & Volunteer)

  • LSV Comms (Paid & Volunteer)

Applicants will be able to select a maximum of two preferred services in their application. This will help ensure we can fulfill rostering requirements and facilitate team development.

Applicants will also be required to provide their Member ID (this can be found on the Club Gateway), and confirm their email address (via the Members Area) when submitting their application. Further instructions for this are provided in the application form.

Members who are accepted onto the 2024 Advanced Lifesaving Camp do not need to reapply for a lifeguard position.

Further details are outlined below regarding specific award requirements. Please note awards must be obtained prior to the listed cut-off date for applications to be progressed.

LSV are now accepting applications to join Life Saving Victoria’s team of casual Education Instructors this summer! Use skills that you’ve learnt in lifesaving for casual employment.

Training Officer Course (TOC) rollout

Volunteer Training has developed a new TOC to meet the requirements of the training package TAESS000028—Work Skill Instructor Skill Set. This is now ready for release and will be rolled out on the dates listed below.

To make the course more accessible to members, Volunteer Training has removed the course fee and introduced eLearning components to reduce face-to-face hours on the course.

The new course has significant content changes to the previously delivered course, and members should ensure they are mindful of the commitment ahead of enrolling in this course, including enrolment at least one month prior to each course to ensure eLearning content is completed before the course commencement date

Program Overview

  • Pre-course eLearning including theory assessment – approximately 20 hours to complete

  • Day 1 - Face-to-face workbook activities – 08:30 am to 5:30 pm

  • Day 2 - Face-to-face practical activities (3 x 30-minute course deliveries per candidate – 08:30 am to 5:30 pm

Rollout Plan

  • August 17 & 18 – Pilot Course – Life Saving Victoria Office, Port Melbourne

  • September 21 & 22 – Life Saving Victoria Office, Port Melbourne

  • October 5 & 6 – Life Saving Victoria Office, Port Melbourne

  • October 26 & 27 – Life Saving Victoria Office, Port Melbourne

  • November 23 & 24 – Life Saving Victoria Office, Port Melbourne

Following these initial courses, a rolling calendar of course dates will recommence and will be delivered at locations across the state. Please continue to monitor the Member Training Portal for upcoming courses

New Leadership Program (AGE 18-30) – applications now open

Applications are now open for the LSV’s new 18-30 leadership program, Leadership Beyond the Flags. Life Saving Victoria is excited to launch a new leadership development opportunity for our members aged 18 - 30.

This program has been codesigned with our 18 – 30 members through the M&LD senior development panel and aims to enhance our emerging leaders with the skills and knowledge to support members' thriving in current and future roles.

This program has been identified by both clubs and the M&LD Council executive as a key need for our members: to retain talented members within the lifesaving movement and provide opportunities for continuous growth.

This program aims to upskill, develop, and engage our volunteer workforce by focusing on four key pillars;

  1. Understanding yourself as a leader,

  2. Leading others,

  3. All things communication, and

  4. Managing yourself.

Leadership beyond the flags will be delivered as an intensive two-day live-in weekend at Melbourne Business School from Saturday, August 31, to Sunday, September 1, 2024. Participants will be required to complete a development questionnaire before the program begins.

Program Details and Cost

When: Saturday, August 31 (10am TBC) - Sunday, September 1 (3:30pm TBC)

Location: Melbourne Business School, Carlton (onsite accommodation)

Cost: The cost for the program is $550 per participant (inc. GST). Cost includes all sessions, materials, accommodation, and meals. This aligns with LSV’s strategic objective and commitment to develop our volunteer workforce. The cost has been significantly subsidised. LSV will invoice clubs for the cost of the program. It is up to each club and participant/s to agree on how much each party will contribute.

Smiths Beach Rescue Base Repairs - Donations needed

Unfortunately since it’s inception the Smiths beach tower has been stripped down by the harsh weather conditions from the beach.

The rescue base is need of urgent repairs and maintenance (including re-painting in oil-rig spec paint) in order to avoid Occupational Health and Safety (OH&S) issues / the structure becoming condemned; and to ensure that the two structures can continue serving the Phillip Island Nature Park (PINP) / Bass Coast Shire Council (BCSC) residents and visitors and Life Saving Victoria (LSV) lifeguard service over the next 20-25 years.

The required works includes

  • Wall panel works

  • Stair removal and replacement

  • Insitu painting works
