2023/24 ~ Patrol Roster/Key Contacts
Dear Members
Please see below the Patrol Roster for the 2023/24 season! The patrol roster can be found on our website under Members > Patrol Roster. Each Patrol Group will also have the Patrol Roster and Key Contacts pinned to the top of their respective patrols.
Patrol Roster - https://www.woolamaibeach.org.au/patrol-roster
Patrol Dates
Patrols will start on the 11th November 2023 and conclude on the 14th April 2024. Looking at the roster you will notice a few extra dates highlighted in grey. These dates are an extension of our normal patrols determined by high weather risks days ie High Heat Days. If members are required on these days, they will be posted on Facebook as an ‘Optional Patrol’ for those who are able to help out.
Smiths Beach
We are again very fortunate to have the Australian Lifeguard Service patrolling Smiths Beach from the start of November to mid February. From the 24th February our volunteers will be required to patrol both Woolamai and Smiths Beach. This is an awesome experience to gain exposure to another beach other than Woolamai.
Social Calendar
Our Patrol Leadership Team’s have worked together over the last month to create an awesome social calendar for our members. We will see our annual events such as the Channel Challenge and Cowes Classic run as well as Super Saturday returning for a second year! Super Saturday will host our annual Club Championships and Paella Night. Keep an eye on socials for event details.
As well as our club events, each patrol will be hosting their own events which will keep members engaged and work on team bonding. As per the calendar, each patrol will have the following:
Patrol Induction: All new members to the patrol (SRC/Bronze) will be inducted into their patrol group. This is a fun ceremony that is unique to each patrol and created a strong bond between members.
Patrol Major Event: The patrol leadership teams are allocated a budget to create an amazing event each season. We want to encourage as many members from the patrol (and other patrols) to attend their patrols major event.
Patrol Activities: We encourage members to stick around after patrol and participate in patrol activities. Patrol Activities are great for team bonding and getting to know your team members. Activities may include:
Team Dinners
Patrol Development
Patrol Games
Patrol Inductions and Major Events will be posted in the Patrol Facebook Groups, as well as the Club Events Calendar which can be located on the website here - https://www.woolamaibeach.org.au/events
Key Contacts
Each patrol has a core team of Patrol Leaders who manage the social events and patrol operations in their respective patrols. These members consist of:
Mentors: Mentors have previously been a patrol captain and are now looking to mentor members of the patrol leadership team.
Patrol Captains: Patrol Captains are responsible for the coordination of all Patrol Members whilst on patrol
Vice Patrol Captains: Vice Patrol Captains are able to assist the Patrol Captain with duties as request
Junior Captains: The newly development role of the Junior Captain is to give our youth members a structured pathway into leadership roles within the club. This is an excellent stepping stone to experience first hand how patrols are run and also provides a voice for our junior/youth members within the club.
Our Patrol Leadership Teams provide an important role in being responsible for the health and safety of members conducting volunteer patrols and patrol activities.
If you have any questions regarding your patrols, please reach out to one of your Patrol Leaders. To view the list of Key Contacts, please click here - https://www.woolamaibeach.org.au/patrol-roster
Looking forward to a great Summer.

Skills Maintenance Weekend
When is Skills Maintenance?
Skills Maintenance Weekend will be held on Saturday 2nd December and Sunday 3rd December 2023.
You are only required to attend 1 of these days and complete the awards that you hold.
What is Skills Maintenance?
Skills maintenance is intended to ensure all patrolling lifesavers remain proficient in their skills and display the appropriate knowledge and understanding of the patrol award criteria. All active Lifesavers are required to complete a skills maintenance assessment to show currency in the life saving award/s they hold and wish to retain.
What is assessed at Skills Maintenance?
More information will be provided. Please see below snapshot of what is assessable on the day.
CPR/ART/First Aid
The training team recently conducted an audit on members whos awards are expiring this season. It is important to note that completion of ART or CPR skills maintenance, does not lead to the issuance of units of competency (It does not renew your qualification).
In addition to skills maintenance members should undertake award course activities as required by the Australian Resuscitation Council.
• CPR (every 12 months)
• ART (every 3 years)
To assist members renew their qualifications, a Resuscitation (CPR) course will be available the Saturday and Sunday morning of the Skills Maintenance sessions. Further information about booking in will be sent out next month.
The club will also attempt to run an ART/FA course prior to Skills Maintenance. This course is dependent on trainer availability and will be conducted down at Woolamai. Details on this course will be communicated next month.
What can I do to prepare?
2) Ensure you have a valid WWCC
Memberships - If you are not renewed before your session, you will NOT be able to requalify your awards. Please Note: the membership fee will be increasing by $10 at the end of the month.
WWCC - All members aged 18+ MUST have a current WWCC. If you are turning 18 during the season, please ensure you apply for one early.
E-learning - E-Learning is a requirement for any award that you wish to requalify in. E-learning will be checked prior to the sessions to ensure they have been completed. Any incomplete e-learning will result in you not being able to participate in skills maintenance.
Bookings: All members are required to book into a session. Sessions are capped at 25 and so there will be multiple sessions available per day. Please book into ONLY 1 of these sessions.
For more information and guides on how to complete the above steps, please read our skills maintenance page https://www.woolamaibeach.org.au/skills-maintenance
