Competition
Jeremy Goodger, Competition Director
It was a fantastic season for the Woolamai Beach Junior Competition Team with carnivals on most weekends through January and February and our regular training sessions in Melbourne and on the island.
We started the season with a focus on encouraging more Nippers to join the Junior Competition Team. With this in mind we are very proud of our growing team of up to 35 Nippers! who represented our club at a number of the Junior Carnivals throughout Victoria. From this group, 28 Nippers! qualified and attended the LSV Junior State Championships in Lorne. This was a fantastic number, almost doubling our 2018 representation!
All of the training and dedication paid off at the State Champs, with a number of teams who competed making it through to Semi-finals or Finals in numerous events. We had some great results from individuals including Lily Parson achieving second place in the Beach Sprint.
Woolamai Beach SLSC this year again competed in the Winter Pool Carnivals. Five dedicated Nippers! represented the club across the Junior and Senior carnivals with Marley Smith and Willow Goodger-McGrath achieving Gold medals at the Junior State Championships for the line throw event in their respective age groups. The Senior Indoor State Championships are still to be held so there may be more to come!
This season we also had four of the Junior Competition Team parents achieve their bronze medallion and 4 achieve their Level 1 official’s qualification. Congratulations to those who have achieved these qualifications. Yourselves and all of the age managers, coaches, IRB crew and supporters have made the 2018–2019 season possible. Thank you.
We are looking forward to a great upcoming 2019–2020 season.
