Becoming a Trainer, Assessor or Facilitator

The TOC award:

The Training Officer Certificate provides participants with the skills, knowledge, and experience to deliver quality training of lifesaving awards. To begin the process of becoming a trainer, you must gain this award by enrolling via LSV Member Training Portal.

Accredited Vs Non-Accredited Awards:

  • Non-accredited training sits outside the scope of the AQF and is developed, coordinated, and delivered by LSV in partnership with Surf Life Saving Australia (SLSA). These include all lifesaving awards aside from the ones mentioned above.

The process for becoming a trainer in accredited training requires a few more steps than non-accredited awards!

Steps to becoming a TAF:

Frequently Asked Questions:

  • Evidence forms are like a 'sign off sheet' that need to jointly completed by you and your TAF supervisor. The forms are sent to LSV as evidence that you have attended the required number of sessions and successfully fulfilled the obligations of a TAF.

    • There is a different form depending on whether you are becoming a trainer, assessor or facilitator. However, there are not different forms depending on which award you are training.

    • To access and understand the evidence forms, please click here.

  • This can be found on your 'awards list' via SLSA Members Area.

    • TAF awards are written like 'Assessor Bronze Medallion' or 'Training Officer First Aid'.

    • Your award can expire - make sure to check!

  • If you have maintained your own currency in the award and remained an active trainer or teacher in other areas, send an email to volunteertraining@lsv.com.au explaining this and asking them to update your TAF currency in this award.

  • Because ARTFA involved training accredited awards, the process is a bit more complicated than normal - please see this page for more information.
