President’s Report
December and January saw the club respond incredibly well to the latest COVID impact. We managed to complete our SRC, bronze and requalification training, highly successful nippers program and most importantly kept our volunteer and lifeguards patrols operational. Unfortunately the latest outbreak saw the clubhouse effectively closed to everyone other than those patrolling on the day and most social events, vegetation planting day, sustainability and other activities cancelled. We have had many meetings and updates with LSV (often daily) and our clubs response has met with LSV requirements and aligned with similar responses from other clubs. I would like to sincerely thank all those who give up even more of their time to deal with the COVID impact on everything the club does.
Material land management works have commenced around the club and the club has developed a very strong relationship with nature parks led by Stafford Smith and John Thomson.
Our asset development and management program has been continuing and most recently the extension to house our ATV’s and additional storage has been completed. The new garage doors, roller shelves for gear and increase to storage has increased the functional efficiency and available space in the gear shed. Great job Clarky and team
We remain hopeful that our special events (Cowes and Channel challenges) can run and Ron Nicholson has been leading a dedicate group to work through a very challenging time. We currently expect the events to run and if we do hope to break the all time record. Would be great to get as many clubbies and their families involved
Stay safe and enjoy your summer holidays

Course Update
December Bronze Medallion Camp
After postponing our main Bronze Medallion camp last season due to COVID, the training and assessing team successfully delivered the December Bronze Medallion Camp over a full week with no set backs. Over the week long course, candidates learnt critical skills in lifesaving, surf awareness, first aid, health, fitness and leadership, as well as making life long friendships. Special thanks to Isabella Clark and her team for facilitating the camp and we look forward to planning for next season.
Surf Rescue Certificate Courses
Due to a number of members wanting to progress to the Surf Rescue Certificate Course, the training and assessing team decided to create 2 seperate full day courses. Despite a few COVID challenges, the 2 courses saw over 50 members obtain the SRC award! Special thanks to Josh Williams & Hallie Mau for running the first course, and Annie Coleman & Liam Comber running the second course. We would also like to thank all the water safety who attended throughout the week to assist the team.

TOC Courses
The TOC award is the initial step to becoming an endorsed Training Officer for LSV. This opportunity is for members looking to have a long-term involvement in training and assessment delivery across a combination of aquatic rescue, first aid and emergency care and powercraft courses. WBSLSC are very fortunate to have many members complete this award over the last few years and thus, will have a strong group of trainers moving forward.
LSV recently advertised for more TOC courses to be conducted over the summer season. If you are interested in learning more about the TOC Award click here
Future Courses
Planning has commenced for our annual IRB Camp, held during the Labour Day Weekend. If you are interested in obtaining your Inflatable Rescue Boat Crew/Driver, please keep an eye out on Facebook and the weekly updates. For more information about the awards, please see below:

IRB Racing Team EOI
Hello Members!
Expression of Interest in joining an IRB Racing team!!
I have been getting together a group of members to start up an IRB Racing team for the club and have reached a point where we are happy to open up an EOI to setup structure for the near future team!
***NOTE*** – This is a 2-3 year plan in starting up our OWN team and we are searching for not only competitors BUT also Coaches, Team Managers, officials and support people to help run it. Please be advised that if there are low numbers of interest and lack of people willing to take on certain roles, it will be difficult to transition from other clubs into our own competition team. (If we race by ourselves we need to supply officials, coaches, etc)
That being said, if you are interested in any of these roles we will help and guide you down the necessary paths to get qualified and feel comfortable!
We currently have a healthy relationship with Waratah Beach SLSC, in which they have kindly offered to help teach us some basic skills and techniques about IRB Racing and what’s expected.
They may also be interested in taking on some members to race before we start racing ourselves!
(Be advised that we are speaking to multiple clubs)
We have been invited to Waratah's first training session on the 29TH OF JAN @ 10AM
This may be capped with numbers so if you are interested in attending please fill out the necessary area on the google form to say that you will attend!
WHAT ARE WE LOOKING FOR?
- Parents and Members!
To run an IRB Racing team takes a lot of work and time behind the scenes and I’m searching for members who will be committed to assist me with lifting this off the ground in the coming years! Our plan is to create our framework and structure now and develop and educate all of us before we enter as our own team!
We are after:
- Coaches PLEASE NOTE – Coaches are still able to compete! BUT we can only enter 1 Race team per 2 coaches. If we wish to add more race teams in, we only have to add 1 coach to the already 2 coaches (2 IRB TEAMS = 3 COACHES). Ideally we would love to have as many people become coaches for the teams convenience with training and competition.
- Competitors!! – CREWS and DRIVERS and PATIENTS! Please do not be shy, although we are looking for committed people… If you think that you would like to give it a go please come along or speak with myself about racing!
(If you would like some more practice or confidence I’ll be more than happy to try and set up our own session at Wooli to be more comfortable with them!)
WHEN IS IRB SEASON? WHAT MIGHT IT LOOK LIKE FOR YOU?
IRB Season is approximately from MARCH – JULY!
Training sessions can be moved to better suit the entire group BUT will consist to either weekly or fortnightly depending on our completion of mandatory hours and practice we need! (Be aware that these will also be dependent on the other clubs availability too).
In terms of comps! These are spread over march and July at multiple locations across Victoria (Predominantly the bay area of Melbourne and the surf coast).
(More information will be brought out once fixtures have been released).
ZOOM Session On the 27TH JAN @8:00pm
I will be running a Zoom Session to better introduce IRB Racing to those that are interested in competing. Please note that people attending this session will be considered as ‘committed’ members!
Below I’ve attached a Google Form of interest! If you think this is for you then please fill it out and if there are any questions feel free to contact me!
