President’s report
Hi everyone,
It has been a busy month for everyone involved in planning for season 2022/23.
Thank you to everyone who has been a part of it.
Clubhouse
Our Assets team has been putting in some incredible hours
In the past month we have seen significant roof repairs and plumbing to prevent leaks, installation of a roof safety ladder and roof tap and hose to assist with roof cleaning, cleaning gutters, re-plastering and repairs to water damage, re-insulating, painting, cleaning carpet, installing an automatic window cleaner for the tower and many other maintenance projects.
A huge thank you to Darrell Clark, Stafford Smith, Campbell Smart, Michael ‘Boo’ Butler and the other team members who have been organising or carrying out this work.
There are always plenty of maintenance and improvement projects at the Clubhouse, Smiths Beach Rescue Base and the Club residence. The Assets team is looking for new members so if you would like to join the team and help manage or deliver a project please get in touch. Contact Darrell Clark on darrellclark27@outlook.com if you would like to help out.
The Woolamai Beach Environs Management Plan is progressing well and we are currently preparing for major works to re-profile, stabilise and revegetate the dunes surrounding the Clubhouse and the building of a retaining wall.
COVID safety planning
For the past few seasons our Club and its activities have been significantly affected by COVID-19.
This summer we will still be required to have a COVIDSafe Plan and meet specific requirements.
Life Saving Victoria is working within the parameters of current requirements which are due to be reviewed on 12 October.
Clubs are being encouraged to plan for a season with the following requirements likely to remain for the season:
Third dose (fully vaccinated + booster) required for workers over 18 years old
Two doses (fully vaccinated) required for workers over 12 years + 2 months and below 18 years (unless an exemption applies)
A worker is anyone aged 12 years and two months and older who is involved in delivering any of our services, programs, and/or activities (volunteer or employed).
This includes employees, patrolling members, club committee members, administrators, age managers, coaches, officials, water safety, helpers (training course, event or nipper programs) and participants in lifesaving training (Bronze Medallion, SRC).
Keep an eye out for COVID-Safe updates from Life Saving Victoria and the Club.
Charter
The Club Board has just adopted a Governance Charter. This sets out the main principles to be adopted by the Club and its Board in order to develop, implement and maintain a culture and standard of good corporate governance.
This will soon be published on our website and will explain how the Club Board approaches its responsibilities, acts ethically and runs efficient and effective meetings.
Community grant
A big thank you to the Bendigo Community Bank Branch of Cowes, San Remo and Grantville for the $2500 grant which will help the Club obtain new fuel cells and safety vests for the IRBs. Thank you to Brendan and Campbell Smart for putting the application together. Alan ‘Aquamole’ Hailes and I attended the Grants Presentation Evening at Dalyston Football & Netball Club to gratefully accept the grant.
Come and help out
In the lead up to the season we are calling on people to help to take on different roles or be a part of a team to help deliver our various activities and programs.
We have recently seen call outs for our Diversity Committee, Communications team, Sustainability Committee, Life Saving Services team (patrol leadership & equipment roles) and for other key roles.
When you see an ad in the newsletter or a post in Facebook looking for help, put your hand up -you never know where it might lead, what you might learn and how rewarding it can be!
See you down the beach soon.
Regards,
Jason Close - President

Member Development Opportunities
The Bass District Development Camp
The Bass District Lifesaving Development Camp Management team are proudly planning to run yet another Development camp in the new year. We are hopeful with easing of restrictions that we may see a full capacity camp with little to no Covid interference.
About Dev Camp
For those unfamiliar, this camp is a week-long live in camp that is heavily scenario-based training. We offer ART, FA. IRBC and IRBD. We focus heavily on leadership and offer a lot of leadership knowledge, experience, and training. We are hoping to expand beyond the bass region this year and offer both candidate and leadership roles. We encourage everyone to partake. If any further questions – please contact the camp coordinator
Camp Expression of Interest (Candidate and Leader)
