Presentation Night- Date set!

Hello Wooli Family

We are very excited that we are beginning preparations for our first in person presentation night on Saturday 28th May 2022. We will be returning to Silverwater Resort in San Remo.

For this event to be successful we need an organising committee to be established and cover activities including

  • Lead the organising committee

  • Advertising and communications

  • Ticket sales and associated financials

  • Organising awards

  • Planning the after party

  • Masters of Ceremonies speech

  • Run sheet for the night

I have booked the venue and the menu is locked in.

Michael Butler and Daniela Gisler have volunteered to be the MC's for the night. Terry Aslanidis and Hugo Richter have put their hand up to help on the committee.

Its exciting to be involved in preparing such a great event after 2 years of lockdowns. We need volunteers to help, its not fair to leave all the work to same few who keep stepping up. The work isnt hard, just a few hours if each task has an accountable club member we can smash it out. Please reply to this post or direct message myself or Hugo Richter if you want to get involved.

Thanks

Mark Bain - President

Brain Research Study - Volunteers Needed

We are still hoping to have some more young volunteers to act as controls for our brain research with the AFL and into dementia. As well as older  volunteers to act as controls and those that have have a significant history of injury as actual subjects for our traumatic brain injury study.

It's a fair bit of work but it will make a contribution to prevention of dementia, we have made considerable progress already.

There will be some compensation for their time, it will involve have their brain “PET" scanned with TAU tracer and potentially other tracers and some brain quizzes and 7 tesla MRI depending on what study they match up with.

If any lifesavers young or old can help please contact our study nurse Rodney. rodney.guzman@austin.org.au

Thanks,

Rob Williams - Seal

Gerries Update + Upcoming Social Event

Gerries complete 4th patrol for the year at Smiths!

A near record of 10 plus Gerries, Junior Gerries & Baby Gerries had a great day on patrol at Smiths.  At times there were more patrolling members in the water than on the sand! (With caps of course!) Afterwards we had a drink with Pizza at club.

On April 9th we have our last patrol to be followed by the famous Seals Ribs. All members up to about 40 max are welcome. Booking & payment details to follow.

IRB March Camp

A huge congratulations to everyone who took part in this years March IRB Camp. Each year we continue to provide high quality training to our members, to ensure we uphold our standards and reputation at Woolamai Beach.

Candidates went above and beyond showing great ambition in demonstrating their newly developed skills in the surf, as well as being challenged mentally and physically as we started most days at 7am and finished as late as 8pm.

Very proud of Lachie and all the IRB crews/drivers who attended the IRB camp. As President, big thank you and congratulations to the training team who gave up five days to run the course
— Mark Bain - IRB Trainer & Assessor

We are super stoked to have a lot of interest from our newest members, eager to complete their IRBC. With a few COVID set backs, this course saw 8 IRBC’s and 5 IRBD’s complete their award!

I feel I am able to read the surf conditions better to hopefully make sound judgements.
I reckon I could do a motor roll over procedure in my sleep now
— David Ellison (IRB Driver)

I would just like to thank all the trainers who gave up 2 weekends in order to make this camp possible:

  • Alan (Aquamole) Hailes

  • Mark Bain

  • Darrell Clark

  • Evan Richter

  • Liam Comber

We love training this camp every year and look forward to training the next lot of IRBC’s at Easter
— Liam Comber - IRB Trainer
